After a short week of work and travel my new Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VRII lens arrived. After a morning session of replacing my favorite pack straps, modifying my camera holder, flipping the tripod mount 180 degrees on the lens I was ready to go for a hike.
MWW and I headed out to Harvey Bear Ranch, Coyote Lake County Park, where it was a overcast day with a storm looming off the coast. There were not a lot of great photo opportunities but since I was very excited about my new lens i took the opportunity to photograph anything i could. Some good and others well not so great. My best photos of the day were of a Norther Flicker, typically they are not good clients, he was very patient with my presence and even flew towards me for an off the branch photo opportunity. All and all a good day and wow what a new lens.
